Acts: Christian Commitment

Acts: Christian Commitment!
Acts 6-7

The Missionary Heart:

  • Cares more than some think is wise
  • Risks more than some think is safe
  • Dreams more than some think is practical
  • Expects more than some think is possible

Study It!

What is a martyr? By definition, a martyr is a person who gives his or her life for a cause.

Acts 6:8-15
Stephen serving Jesus is opposed, confronted and arrested.

Acts 7:2-53
Stephen Speaks

  • Longest speech recorded in Acts
  • Little defense of himself
  • Recital of Jewish History
  • V.2-8 deal with Abraham.
  • V.9-16 deal with Joseph.
  • V.17-43 deal with Moses, followed by a section that
  • V.44-50 deal with contrasting the wilderness tabernacle with the temple in Jerusalem
  • V.51-53 accusations leveled against the Sanhedrin
  • V.54-58 Stephen's dies living for Jesus

Apply It!

It is good to study what Stephen said but today I want us to look more at what he did... an example of true commitment. A life that we can follow.

1. True commitment rises from genuine faith!

Do you have genuine faith?

  • To serve God you have to follow him. Do you follow him?
  • To follow God you have to know Him. Do you know Him?
  • To know God you have to trust him. Have you placed your trust in him for your salvation?

2. True commitment is being ready to live but willing to die!

When we die to Christ then we can live for Him.

3. True commitment obeys Christ's commission to share His Gospel!

4. True commitment is immersed in grace and holds on to hope.
